Bolton are chasing the signature of Chelsea defender Nathan Ake, but the Blues look set to block any potential deal from happening.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman is searching the market for a defender, following an injury to Matt Mills, but has been left frustrated in recent weeks - most notably seeing a move for Sweden international Mikael Dyrestam break down.

Ake moved to Chelsea from Feyenoord in 2011 and has made six senior appearances for the Blues, all of which came under the management of Rafael Benitez last season.

Burnley, Watford and Wigan Athletic all failed to take the 19-year-old on loan during the January transfer window, with current Blues boss Jose Mourinho naming him in a number of matchday squads throughout the course of the current campaign.

Ake - who can play as a central defender, holding midfielder or left-back - signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge last August.
