Tim Ream has withdrawn from the United States squad for Wednesday's friendly against Ukraine, following the birth of his first son.

Ream looked set to end a two-and-a-half year exile on the international scene by representing his country next week, but he has been excused by Jurgen Klinsmann - along with fellow Americans Michael Bradley and Mix Diskerud, who are both suffering from slight injuries.

The States have opted against calling up replacements for the trio, in what is one of their final preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Ream, who famously cancelled his honeymoon in order to sign for Bolton, has made 64 appearances during his two-year spell at the Reebok Stadium. Exactly half of those - 32 - have come this season. He is under contract with the Trotters until the summer of 2015.
