Bolton look set to be without Matt Mills and Darren Pratley for quite some time after their injuries turned out to be worse than originally feared.

Both players suffered the problems during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Watford, with Mills appearing to overstretch his hamstring in the latter stages of the game and Pratley having to be replaced early on with a shoulder complaint.

Wanderers have yet to confirm the length of absence for both players, but reports on Wednesday night suggest Mills will be sidelined for between four and six weeks. Pratley, meanwhile, could be done for the campaign after scans on his shoulder revealed damage that may require surgery further down the line.

Neil Danns is likely to cover for Pratley during his lay-off, but Bolton boss Dougie Freedman will face a tougher time without Mills. Zat Knight is the most likely candidate to take his place - with Tim Ream, David Wheater and Alex Baptiste the club's only other recognised senior defenders currently available for selection.

The news comes just days after Wanderers pulled out of a deal to sign Sweden international full-back Mikael Dyrestam from IFK Goteborg, after talks broke down over a compensation agreement with his former club.
