Derby County are reported to have entered the race to sign Mikael Dyrestam, just days after it emerged Bolton had ended their pursuit of the player.

Dyrestam spent last week training with Wanderers and looked set to be offered a contract, until talks broke down over a compensation package with his former club - IFK Goteborg.

The 22-year-old spent six years with the Swedish club, coming through their youth system, before going on to represent his country on two separate occasions. His contract expired at the end of December, thus making him a free agent, but Goteborg are due a development fee due to the age of the player.

That fee, said to be in the region of £320,000, led Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman drop his interest and broaden the search for a left-back, leaving Derby as the new favourites to bring the youngster to the Championship.
