Bolton have re-signed Joe Mason on a 51-day emergency loan deal from Premier League side Cardiff City.

The deal, which is subject to international clearance, will see the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international move to the Reebok Stadium until April 12, 2014, in what will be his second spell at the club this season.

The 22-year-old spent five weeks with the Trotters at the end of last year, before returning to his parent club ahead of the FA Cup third round weekend. He made eight appearances during his original spell, scoring one goal.

Mason has made just one appearance for the Bluebirds since the turn of the year, ironically coming against Bolton in an FA Cup fourth round victory in January.

Under Football League rules, emergency loan deals can only have a maximum term of 93 days. As his previous term with the Trotters lasted 42 days, his fresh deal can only run until mid-April.

As he did during his last spell, Mason will wear the number 26 shirt during his time with Wanderers.
