Philadelphia Union manager John Hackworth has confirmed his interest in signing Bolton defender Zat Knight.

The new MLS season begins on March 8 and clubs across the United States are beginning to finalise their rosters ahead of the new campaign. Although the British transfer window has closed, the American window remains open and deals to take players to the country are permitted.

Reports on Sunday suggested Knight was a target for the Union, although Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman said there was no truth to the rumours at a press conference on Monday.

The 33-year-old was absent from Bolton's 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Tuesday night, with David Wheater taking his place in the starting line-up, and the Union manager says Knight is still a name he is interested in - saying he 'talked to Zat's agents a couple of weeks ago'.

"Truthfully, we have been in some conversations [with Knight]," Hackworth told MLSSoccer.com. "But at the same time, we are looking at a lot of different countries and have vetted out many different center back options.

"I would think it depends on how these next couple of games go and where we are. He's certainly one of the guys we’re still considering.

"We still think we need to add a potential center back to our roster."
