Bolton have completed the signing of Millwall midfielder Liam Trotter on a loan deal which will run until the end of the season.

Trotter's contract with the Lions expires in the summer, putting Wanderers in with a good chance of securing him on a permanent basis if his stint at the Reebok Stadium is a success.

The 25-year-old has made 19 appearances for Ian Holloway's side this season, scoring three times, but his future was thrown into doubt after he failed to agree terms on a new deal at The Den.

The former Ipswich Town midfielder could make his Wanderers debut when Dougie Freedman's side travel to Portman Road on Saturday. He has been allocated the number 17 shirt.

Trotter will be ineligible to face Millwall when Bolton make the trip to London on February 15.
