Bolton forward Craig Davies has joined Preston North End on a loan deal which will run until the end of the season.

Davies joined Wanderers from Barnsley in January 2013 but has failed to establish himself as a regular under Dougie Freedman, with injuries restricting him to just 10 appearances this season.

He made his first start since August in last weekend's defeat to Cardiff City, before featuring again in Tuesday's loss to Queens Park Rangers.

The Wales international goes straight into the squad for Preston's game with Notts County on Saturday and Lilywhites boss Simon Grayson believes he has pulled off a major coup for a club looking to achieve promotion to the Championship.

"Craig will add further quality and competition for us in the busy period we have between now and the end of the season," Grayson told Preston's official club website.

"The fact we have been able to sign a player who has been starting at a Championship club shows our intentions and I am grateful to Mr Hemmings for allowing us again improve the options we have available to us."

Davies echoed the thoughts of his new manager and hopes the move to Deepdale will provide him with the chance to rid himself of niggling injuries and get back to playing on a regular basis.

"I am looking forward to getting plenty of games under my belt," Davies said. "It has been a while since I played a few games in a row so hopefully I can do that here.

"I have been a bit unfortunate the first part of the season through injury, but hopefully the second half of the season I can do really well and play a lot of games for Preston and help push for promotion."

Davies has been handed the number 17 shirt and will link up with former Wanderers captain Kevin Davies, who is also on the books at Deepdale.
