Dougie Freedman was left fuming after Tim Ream required three stitches to a broken nose in Tuesday's defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

Ream suffered the injury just 15 seconds into the loss at Loftus Road, after being on the receiving end of a flailing arm from Charlie Austin - who later went on to score for Harry Redknapp's side.

Speaking after the game, the Bolton boss believed the former Burnley forward should have been sent off for the challenge but refused to criticise match referee Andy D'Urso and risk a heavy fine from The FA.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Freedman said: "I don't want to say too much because it will end up costing me money - I would rather give it to charity.

"When I go to meetings and they talk about dangerous play and the effect that causes, a guy walks away with three stitches and a broken nose and it seems to be an accident. I find it hard to believe.

"Was it because it was the first minute of the game? Yes it was."

Ream's injury provided a first senior appearance for Hayden White, who is now in contention to face Ipswich Town at the weekend - with Zat Knight, Matt Mills and Alex Baptiste the only other options available for selection.
