Bolton Coach Resigns After Betting Probe

Matthew Dewhurst, an academy coach who bet against Bolton Wanderers, has resigned from his position at the club.

Dewhurst, who held the role of Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Wanderers academy, claimed to have won £231.59 from a nine-match accumulator on Tuesday night. One of the fixtures on his betting slip was the Trotters' game at Queens Park Rangers, which they lost 2-1.

Under FA rules, employees at all football clubs are prohibited from placing bets on matches involving their employers.

An investigation into Mr Dewhurst's conduct was launched, but he returned to work to offer his resignation and a letter of apology - both of which were accepted by Wanderers.
