The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup has been made, pitting Bolton at home to Premier League side Cardiff City.

Wanderers advanced to this stage of the competition with a 2-1 victory over Blackpool on Saturday, while Cardiff won by the same scoreline at Newcastle United in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of the club.

The two sides have been drawn together on three separate occasions in the FA Cup, with their last meeting coming at the third round stage in 1999/00. A solitary goal from Eidur Gudjohnsen gave the Trotters victory on that Tuesday night at the Reebok Stadium.

They met in the fourth round in 1973, when two replays were needed before a winner could be found. After drawing 2-2 at Burnden Park, the sides met again just four days later - with the game ending 1-1 at Ninian Park - before Wanderers prevailed 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion's The Hawthorns the following week.

Cardiff's only success over Bolton in the competition came back in 1927, when they won 2-0 in a fifth round tie at Burnden Park. The Trotters went into the game as defending champions of the cup, but ultimately failed in their attempts to win in back-to-back seasons.

The forthcoming fixture will see the return of former Bolton loanees Kevin McNaughton and Joe Mason, who recently returned to their parent club following brief spells in the North West.
