David Wheater is facing another month on the sidelines after undergoing further surgery on his troublesome knee.

Wheater has made seven appearances for Bolton this season, but hasn't featured since the 3-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in mid-September.

In October, Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman revealed the 26-year-old had been placed on an individual training programme but the former Middlesbrough defender is now back on the treatment table after having a 'Cyclops Legion' growth removed from the knee he initially injured in 2012.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Freedman said the operation was a success and Wheater could be back in training in as little as a fortnight.

"He was struggling again," Freedman said. "He had a relapse of his knee problem but had a clear out and won't be back in training for a couple of weeks."

Freedman also confirmed Tyrone Mears has joined the club's ever-growing injury list and will be out of action for the immediate future.
