Christopher Sarginson will referee the New Year's Day fixture between Bolton and Middlesbrough at the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 5-3 defeat at Leicester City on Wednesday, while Boro were 3-0 winners over play-off hopefuls Reading at the Riverside Stadium.

Sarginson, who will take charge of the game, has officiated 16 matches so far this season - issuing 51 yellow cards and four red.

His last outing was on December 21, when he was the man in the middle for Cheltenham Town's 2-0 victory at Fleetwood Town in League Two. The Staffordshire official produced three yellow cards in that game at Highbury Stadium.

Sarginson's last match in charge of Bolton was in September 2012, when Wanderers, then under the management of Owen Coyle, were beaten 3-1 at Hull City. One yellow card was shown that day, to the Tigers' Corry Evans.

The last time he refereed a Boro fixture was in August, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside. The Owls' David Prutton was the only player to receive a yellow card that afternoon.

Below is the full set of officials for Wednesday's game between Bolton and Middlesbrough:

Referee: Christopher Sarginson

Fourth Official: Mark Heywood
