Bolton welcome Middlesbrough to the Reebok Stadium on New Year's Day, as they look to begin 2014 with three vital Championship points.

After losing at Leicester City on Sunday, Dougie Freedman will be looking to steady a leaking ship after conceding five goals at the King Power Stadium. Andre Moritz and Jermaine Beckford were both on target as Wanderers scored three times, although the former could miss out through injury.

Moritz was forced off the field midway through the defeat to the Foxes, while Robert Hall had to be replaced at the break after taking a knock to his foot.

Both will be assessed prior to kick-off, with Chris Eagles, Mark Davies and Darren Pratley all ready to step in if they fail to make it into the starting line-up.

Andy Lonergan has shown no ill-effects of the elbow problem he sustained in the draw with Charlton Athletic and is expected to continue in goal, with Adam Bogdan closing in on a return to fitness following a knee ligament injury.

Joe Mason could play the final game of his loan spell from Cardiff City, although Beckford's return to goalscoring form last time out may see him handed a second successive league start.

As well as Bogdan, Wanderers remain without the services of Stuart Holden, Joe Riley and Marc Tierney, while Craig Davies continues to struggle for fitness.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka has seen his side pick up three consecutive victories in the Championship, all of which have come without conceding a goal.

Shay Given extended his loan deal from Aston Villa until February 28 and looks set to continue in goal, but the visitors will be without the suspended Dean Whitehead.

Kei Kamara is out with a medial ligament injury, Jason Steele will miss the trip with an ankle injury and Stuart Parnaby has been granted compassionate leave.
