Loan Report: Sordell Set For Recall?

December was a month of struggles at Bolton Wanderers and it wasn't much different for their trio of players out on loan elsewhere.

Two wins, one draw and three defeats mean Wanderers will end 2013 occupying 18th place in the Championship, but the inconsistency at the club appears to have spread to those playing their football at other clubs in the Football League.

Tom Eaves, Keith Andrews and Marvin Sordell all saw action for their respective loan clubs in December, while Gary Fraser's seven-match ban kept him out of action at Partick Thistle for the duration of the month.

After a disappointing spell at Rotherham United was brought to an end in late November, Eaves was sent to Shrewsbury - where he netted six times in 10 games during a separate loan spell last season.

Hopes were high for the 21-year-old, after he scored in his debut at Stevenage, but he failed to score in any of his four December appearances as Graham Turner's side hover precariously above the League One relegation zone. Eaves started all four of Salop's games, but they scored just one goal in all those matches combined - in a 1-1 draw at Crewe Alexandra on December 21.

Another forward failing to make an impact is the £3million Sordell, who has been at Charlton Athletic since the start of the season. The former England under-21 international has managed just two goals in 17 appearances for the Addicks, in a spell which has largely been restricted to brief cameo roles as a substitute.

Sordell hasn't started a game since October 19 and managed just 25 minutes in December, coming off the bench in defeats to Reading and Derby County respectively, although he did miss Charlton's draw at Bolton due to ineligibility.

Prior to that game, Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman revealed Sordell could be recalled to the Reebok Stadium in January, but only on the basis that an alternative loan arrangement has been agreed elsewhere. Either way, Sordell's hopes of featuring for the Trotters this season appear slim.

Meanwhile, at the AMEX Stadium, Andrews featured just once for Brighton & Hove Albion - in a 3-2 defeat at Charlton on Boxing Day - as he continues to fight back from an Achilles injury he suffered in November.

The Republic of Ireland international played 76 minutes at The Valley, but dropped to the bench for the Seagulls' win at Blackpool on Sunday.
