Former Bolton midfielder Martin Petrov has returned to his native Bulgaria, signing a contract with CSKA Sofia.
Petrov left Wanderers in January, after being granted permission to sign a short-term contract with Spanish side Espanyol. He was released at the end of last season and, having failed to find a new club, recently turned out for Chorlton Torpedo in a Manchester amateur league fixture against Spartak Brushes.
The 34-year-old, who has also represented Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, among others, played for CSKA Sofia between 1996 and 1998 and has now returned to his former club.
The retired Bulgaria international has signed a deal until the end of the season. Sofia are currently 4th in the Bulgarian A Group, eight points behind joint leaders Litex Lovech and Ludogorets, and two points behind third-placed Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
