Liam Feeney has returned to Millwall, after his parent club activated a 28-day recall clause in his loan deal at Bolton.

Feeney joined Wanderers on September 27, in what was initially believed to be a three-month deal, but the Lions had the option of taking the player back to The Den - which they have now acted on.

Last week, Millwall boss Steve Lomas admitted he would take the winger back to The Den unless the Trotters could come to terms on a permanent deal. That has failed to happen so the 26-year-old, who made four appearances during his brief time at the Reebok Stadium, will return to the club he has served since 2011.

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman said he was disappointed to see the player leave after such a short period of time at the club, but admits his hands were tied because of the recall option in the loan arrangement.

"We're obviously disappointed to see Liam leave early," Freedman told the club's official website. "It's kind of backfired on us after how well he has played.

"Originally it was supposed to be a three-month deal, but Millwall had the option to call him back.

"We've seen his quality and we wish him well for the future."
