Freedman Reads Riot Act To Embarrassing Wanderers

Dougie Freedman says he had some harsh words for his Bolton players, following Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

Wanderers were well beaten in the Lancashire derby at Ewood Park, as they dropped to the foot of the Championship table as a result of their worst start to a league season in 29 years.

Speaking after the game, Freedman admitted his side made too many individual errors against Rovers and says the attitude of some of his players could see them sold before Monday's transfer deadline.

"It was a disappointing result, obviously," Freedman said. "Right now we're trying to search for that win.

"We're showing good moments throughout the game but not enough of them right now. I felt that to lose two goals in a short space of time, to two individual mistakes, is very disappointing.

"We fought to get back in the game. We showed good spirit, we had a chance to make it 2-2 and we've not taken it. It's a moment we're in right now and, again, individual mistakes cost us.

"We've thrown everything at it in the last 10-15 minutes. We brought on four strikers and then lost the fourth goal. It was very disappointing for us today but there are certainly glimpses there that show if we continue to go along the right lines, that win will come.

"It's very easy when you get beat in a derby match 4-1 to pick yourselves up. The players were told a few truths after the game. I've got to try and make sure there are players here that want to play for the football club. Right now, I've still got a feeling we've got to recruit two or three more players to get the right attitude in the squad.

"If certain players don't want to be here they go come Monday morning - that's how I feel right now.

"It depends on if anybody goes out. We need to understand that we've got a lot of money tied up in big contracts and long contracts and it's very difficult to then generate some money. Marvin Sordell and Keith Andrews are out on loan to help generate some money, and that's where we find ourselves right now so we've got to try and shuffle the pack to try and get the right type of player in here."

In response to a question regarding the Wanderers supporters, Freedman said: "Thank you very much for the wonderful support. I felt today they got right behind the team.

"Even though we got beat pretty convincingly in a derby match, they got right behind the team and towards the end they showed gratitude to the players coming over. They don't deserve what's happening right now, but we're working very hard to try and turn that round."
