Bolton could be about to make a move for Chris Baird, although any deal may rest on Tim Ream's future at the club.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman is said to be an admirer of Baird, who was released after six years at Fulham at the end of June, but the Trotters don't currently have the necessary finance to conclude a deal.

The 31-year-old has been training with Queens Park Rangers and Harry Redknapp has confirmed he would like to look into the possibility of signing the Northern Ireland international to a contract, but he isn't alone in wanting the player's signature.

Should Bolton shore up their interest with a firm offer, Freedman may decide to offload USA international Ream - at least on a temporary basis. Reports over the weekend linked Ream with a loan switch to League One side Bristol City. The Robins are thought to have made an initial enquiry to Wanderers over the player's availability, but no formal offer has yet to be made.

With just two weeks of the transfer window remaining, there are deals still to be done and the future of Ream, along with fellow defenders Matt Mills and Tyrone Mears, is likely to be a topic of debate over the next fortnight.
