Jay Spearing will undergo a medical at Bolton on Thursday afternoon, after Wanderers agreed a fee with Liverpool for the midfielder.

Spearing spent last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium, making 39 appearances, and was voted as the club's Player of the Year.

Wanderers have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the summer and, at one point, looked set to miss out on the player after Blackburn Rovers agreed a fee to sign him. However, Spearing rejected the opportunity to speak to Rovers officials with his heart seemingly set on a permanent move to the Trotters.

His wish may be about to come true, with Dougie Freedman making his move ahead of Saturday's fixture against Reading. Spearing will complete a medical at the club's Euxton training base and, if all is well, could be unveiled as a Wanderers player as early as Thursday evening.
