Zat Knight has been named permanent captain of Bolton Wanderers, manager Dougie Freedman has confirmed.
Wanderers have been searching for a new skipper since Kevin Davies left the club last month, with the likes of Knight and Keith Andrews mentioned as potential successors to the Trotters legend.
As Davies struggled to earn a place in the Bolton side towards the end of last season, Knight stepped in as captain on a number of occasions and appears to have won the acclaim of Freedman - who has now handed the armband to the 33-year-old on a permanent basis.
Knight moved to the Reebok Stadium from Aston Villa for a fee of around £4million in 2009 and has represented the club more times than any other current player - making a total of 156 appearances. He has just 12 months left on his contract.
In succeeding Davies, Knight follows in the footsteps of Kevin Nolan, Jay-Jay Okocha and Gudni Bergsson in being named captain of the famous old club.
