Former Bolton defender Marcos Alonso has been unveiled as a Fiorentina player and has his sights set on silverware.

After three years at the Reebok Stadium, Alonso left Wanderers when his contract expired last month. The Trotters will receive a nominal compensation package for the 22-year-old, who turned down the opportunity to extend his stay in England.

Speaking at his official unveiling in Italy, the former Real Madrid youngster has set the target of pushing for the Serie A title and is looking forward to working alongside a number of world class players.

"I am very happy to be at Fiorentina and I hope to help the team to fight for the first positions," Alonso said.

"Here at Fiorentina there are great players with whom I can train and learn, like Mario Gomez, Guiseppe Rossi and Massimo Ambrosini - there is a big difference compared to Bolton.

"I had received several offers from England and from Spain, but I've chosen Fiorentina for the confidence they showed in me and for the type of (Vincenzo) Montella's game."

When asked about his chances of ousting Viola captain Manuel Pasqual from the club's left-back position, Alonso said: "Pasqual? He is a player with many years of experience who can help me a lot, but I hope to play as a regular and I'm not here to be the reserve of anyone."
