Bolton boss Dougie Freedman admits an enquiry for Jay Spearing was made, but Liverpool's valuation of the player was too high.

Spearing spent last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium, making 39 appearances, and was voted as the club's Player of the Year.

Reports on Sunday suggested Blackburn Rovers had agreed a fee of £1.5million for the tough-tackling midfielder, but Freedman says fans shouldn't believe everything they read in the press.

In response to multiple questions on the club's official Twitter page, Freedman said: "This is one problem with loans. You work with them, they go back better with an increased value. We have nothing to show at the end.

"Jay Spearing did wonderfully well for our club and of course I like him as a player and person.

"We spoke to Liverpool and their valuation was too high. Please do not believe the price that some journalist makes up."

As well as answering questions about Spearing, Freedman also had comments on the club's pre-season training camp, non-league talent and which players he thought improved the most last season.
