Blackburn Rovers have agreed a £1.5million fee with Liverpool for the potential transfer of Jay Spearing.
Spearing spent last season on loan at Bolton and was voted as the club's Player of the Year after a consistent campaign. The tough-tackling midfielder has 12 months left on his contract at Anfield, but has been deemed surplus to requirements by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
A report by The Daily Mirror suggests Rovers have moved into pole position to sign the 24-year-old, although they may be required to sell players in order to raise the necessary funds.
Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman is said to be keen on bringing the player back to the Reebok Stadium for another loan spell, but the prospect of a permanent deal at Ewood Park would be more appealing to the Liverpool hierarchy.
