Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones says he is still hopeful of convincing Kevin Davies to sign for the club.

Davies is a free agent after his 10-year stay at Bolton came to an end last week. The former Wanderers captain is understood to have attracted interest from the Owls and fellow Championship side Burnley, and he has also been photographed at Preston North End.

Jones, who has previously managed Davies during his days at Southampton, admits talks have taken place and he hopes to make a final decision in the near future.

"The decision's not just Kevin's; it's ours as well," Jones was quoted as saying in The Bolton News.

"He's someone we've spoken to. At the moment we're keeping all our options open, and we'll continue to do that.

"We're just waiting on certain things and for the chairman's green light on one or two other things, then we can move, and if that involves Kevin Davies it will be fantastic, because he's a quality player, a senior player, and he'd be good on and off the pitch.

"But no decision has been made yet; the chairman is away at the moment, we're away in Burton; when we come back we'll get our heads together and see where we are."
