Bolton are preparing to fight for Alex Baptiste, with Crystal Palace reported to be interested in the Blackpool defender.

Baptiste is due to fall out of contract at Bloomfield Road on Saturday and has signed a three-year deal at the Reebok Stadium.

That has not deterred Palace boss Ian Holloway, however, who hopes to persuade the 27-year-old to join him at Selhurst Park with the offer of Premier League football. A move to the Eagles would see Baptiste reunite with the manager who took him to Blackpool from Mansfield Town in 2008.

As reported by The Mirror, the scenario sparks memories of July 2006 when Wanderers completed the free transfer of Dietmar Hamann from Liverpool. The German international's stay at the club lasted less than 24 hours though, as he changed his mind on the move and joined Manchester City - netting Bolton £400,000 in the process.
