Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has ruled out a summer move for out-of-favour Bolton defender Tim Ream.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested the Boro manager was keen on signing the United States international, although the player's agent denied any knowledge of interest.
Mowbray admits he is looking to bolster his defensive options after a disappointing last campaign, but he isn't looking to sign Ream.
"Somebody mentioned that to me a couple of weeks ago but we've had no contact with Bolton," Mowbray was quoted as saying in The Bolton News.
"I don't think he fits the criteria of the type of centre-half we are looking for. We've got likes of (Jonathan) Woodgate and (Rhys) Williams who prefer to play off the 'big man'.
"I would have to say no on that."
