Leeds United look set to abandon plans of signing Matt Mills on a permanent deal, instead focusing on loaning the Bolton defender.
Mills has been linked with a £1million switch to Elland Road this summer, in a move that would see him reunited with his former Reading manager Brian McDermott.
The 26-year-old joined Wanderers for a fee of around £2million last summer but was restricted to just 18 appearances in his debut season at the Reebok Stadium, although injury caused him to miss the majority of the second half of the campaign.
Leeds are understood to be keen on a summer deal but are unlikely to match Bolton's £1million valuation of the player, who is reported to be earning £25,000 a week. Despite their financial struggles, United are expected to make an offer of a season-long loan in the coming days in an attempt to land their man.
