Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has laughed off speculation claiming Crystal Palace are about to hijack a move for Alex Baptiste.

Baptiste will leave Blackpool when his contract expires at the end of June and Wanderers are believed to be in poll position for his signature, with a medical the only thing left to complete.

Fresh reports suggest the 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park, where he would be reunited with former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway. When asked about the potential signing of the versatile defender, Freedman said he was certain the player will be moving to the Reebok Stadium.

"Once everything is sorted, I am signing him as a right-back, 100 per cent," Freedman told The Bolton News.

"He can play in other positions but I feel that is the position where he would be of best value to the team.

"Alex will come here because he wants to be here, nothing else. He had very good offers from clubs elsewhere.

"I want to bring him here because he has experience, he has played in the Premier League and he is a leader - someone who captained Blackpool last season."
