Bolton have agreed a deal to sign Alex Baptiste on a free transfer from Championship rivals Blackpool.

Wanderers had been strongly linked with a move for the Seasiders defender since the season came to a close, although they faced tough competition from a host of Championship clubs and newly-promoted Hull City. The 27-year-old reportedly held talks with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night but decided upon a switch to the Reebok Stadium, signing a three-year contract.

Baptiste captained the Blackpool side last season and impressed when they faced the Trotters on the final day of the season. Although he primarily operates as a right-back, the former Mansfield Town defender can play anywhere across the back-four and is sure to be a welcome addition to Dougie Freedman's set-up.

With his deal at Bloomfield Road coming to an end on June 30th, Baptiste should be unveiled as a Bolton player when the club return to pre-season training in early July. The deal hinges on the result of a medical.
