Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has confirmed his interest in Trent Sainsbury but denies making an offer for the Aussie defender.

Reports last Thursday suggested Wanderers had agreed a £350,000 fee for the 21-year-old, who recently won the Australian league title with Central Coast Mariners.

Speaking to Tower FM, Freedman confirmed he has made an enquiry about the player but says no offer has been tabled.

"There's been an enquiry to see what he's doing over the summer," Freedman said.

"He's finished his season and there's an enquiry with my contacts over in Australia, to see if he's going to go lie on the beach or if he wants to have a fly over and have a look around the training ground, maybe have a fitness test and see if he's the kind of guy I would find in my program.

"That enquiry has obviously been leaked out there as an approach and a bid and things like that which has never been the case."
