Bolton captain Kevin Davies is reportedly on the verge of joining MLS outfit Toronto FC on a free transfer.

Davies' contract expires at the end of June and it has already been confirmed that the 36-year-old will not be offered fresh terms at the Reebok Stadium.

The one-time England international has failed to feature in any of Wanderers' last six games and was left out of the squad completely for last week's fixtures against Leicester City and Middlesbrough, respectively.

With Davies unlikely to figure again this campaign, discussions are believed to be in place that could result in a mutual parting of ways. That would allow the player to link up with the Canadian side as early as this week, without a transfer fee or compensation package being involved.

Should he complete the move, Davies - who came close to joining Houston Dynamo in January 2012 - will join a club currently ranked 7th in the Eastern Conference with seven points from their opening seven games of the new campaign.

The Reds are managed by former Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Nelsen, and have players such as Robert Earnshaw and John Bostock, as well as former Burnley and Bury defender Richard Eckersley on their books.
