Bolton boss Dougie Freedman praised his side's consistency, after sealing an eighth successive home victory with a 2-1 success over Middlesbrough.

After a goalless first half, Wanderers took the lead five minutes after the restart when Chris Eagles' looping cross found a way over Jason Steele and into the bottom corner. Kieron Dyer equalised five minutes later, but the hosts sealed the win when Marvin Sordell scored from the penalty spot just before the hour.

Middlesbrough ended the game with ten men after Jonathan Woodgate was shown a second yellow card midway through the second period, as Bolton moved back into the Championship play-off places with only two games remaining.

Speaking after the game, Freedman hailed the effort of his players and the consistency they are showing at this stage of the campaign.

"It was a very good, spirited performance," Freedman told the club's official website. "That's what we've got on our side at the moment. We've got the spirit and commitment and that's something you can’t buy, that has to be developed.

"Today, Medo's job was to win the ball back. It was from him closing down and winning the ball for us that led to the penalty. The players understand their roles and know exactly what they have to do right now.

"We knew exactly the threats that Middlesbrough posed, that they would come at us down the wings with speed and would look to pass and move the ball in the midfield areas. Not only did we counter that successfully, but we pushed forward and caused problems of our own.

"We're playing very consistently right now and are hitting the form at the right time. The intent and closing down from the players was outstanding. We pressed the ball exceptionally well and made it hard for Middlesbrough.

"When Middlesbrough were reduced to ten men we were professional in our approach to the game and in the end were deserved winners.

"I wrote in my programme notes about how important the fans were going to be. The atmosphere today was absolutely spot on.

"We've got an away game now before we're back at the Reebok and we'll need them with again for the game against Blackpool."
