Dougie Freedman believes Jay Spearing could be fit enough to face Leicester City on Tuesday night, despite limping out of Saturday's win at Bristol City.

Spearing was replaced shortly before the break at Ashton Gate, after picking up a knock on his foot. Speculation over the weekend suggested the on-loan Liverpool midfielder could miss the rest of the season, but Freedman says he is in contention to play against his former club at the King Power Stadium.

"Jay has had a bruised nail for a number of weeks and it's not sore at all when he's got a pair of flip-flops on but with these fancy new boots they have these days that squash it, he got a kick and it was sore," Freedman told The Bolton News.

"I think he will be fine for Tuesday. It was just very uncomfortable for him. But I thought Medo (Kamara) was fantastic when he stepped in."

Spearing has played 39 times for Bolton this season - a total only Chris Eagles, Zat Knight and Lee Chung-Yong can better.
