Bolton Fail With Late Diouf Move

Reports suggest Bolton have failed in their attempts to bring Leeds United forward El-Hadji Diouf back to the Reebok Stadium.

Diouf joined Leeds on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers last August and signed a new 18-month contract at Elland Road in December. He has struggled for form in recent weeks and Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman made a move to sign the one-time Trotters cult hero on the final day of the emergency loan window.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock appeared to be keen on a deal, which could have seen Bolton captain Kevin Davies move in the opposite direction.

Davies has previously indicated that he would only be willing to leave the Reebok Stadium if granted the option of a 12-month contract at the end of the season, which is one possible reason why the deal may have collapsed.

Diouf scored 24 goals in 136 appearances for Bolton between 2004 and 2008, before joining Sunderland for £2.5million. He spent six months at the Stadium of Light, before going on to represent Blackburn Rovers, Glasgow Rangers, Doncaster and, most recently, Leeds.
