Bolton forward Tom Eaves has joined League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town on an initial one-month loan deal.

The former Oldham Athletic youngster spent three months at Bristol Rovers earlier this season, where he scored seven goals in 17 appearances for a side struggling at the foot of League Two.

He returned to the Reebok Stadium at the end of December and signed a new three-year contract with the Trotters just last month, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2016.

Speaking about the signing of the 21-year-old, Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner admitted he had been chasing the signature of Eaves for a long time.

"Tom is a player who we've been trying to get into the club for a while now and it's great news that Bolton have finally allowed him join us," Turner told Shrewsbury's official club website.

"The deal was agreed yesterday (Wednesday) and Tom had options at a number of other sides, including ones higher up in our league, but Bolton and their director of football Lennie Lawrence thought the best option was for him to come here.

"He is a striker who scores goals and holds up play. We had him watched when Bolton reserves played Norwich on Monday and Tom scored the only goal of the game. He's still young but in a recent loan spell with Bristol Rovers he scored seven goals.

"Last season we had James Collins, Marvin Morgan and Terry Gornell sharing the games and sharing the goals.

"This season it's been mainly Marvin Morgan who has had to shoulder that responsibility, but with Chris Porter and Tom Eaves now coming in we have some new options up front."
