Reports on Thursday suggest Charlton Athletic have made an approach to Bolton over a potential loan deal for Marvin Sordell.

South London Press say the Addicks have made a move for the Wanderers forward, who has struggled to settle in the north west since a £3million move from Watford in January 2012.

Sordell has been restricted to only 13 appearances in his 12 months at the Reebok Stadium, with just four of his 10 games this season being from the start. His goal against Sunderland last weekend was just his second for the Trotters.

The England under-21 international has been linked with a move to Cardiff City in recent weeks, but Charlton may have stolen a march on their Championship rivals and the lure of a move back to London may tempt the player into making a fresh start.

Sordell currently has competition from Kevin Davies, David Ngog, Benik Afobe and Craig Davies for a starting role at Bolton but he has come into Dougie Freedman's plans in recent weeks, so the Wanderers boss may be unwilling to let the promising forward leave.
