Freedman Eyes Move For Baggies Defender

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has opened the door for a potential move for West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson.

Dawson has failed to hold down a regular place since signing for the Baggies in 2010 and manager Steve Clarke may be willing to let the England under-21 international leave the Hawthorns.

The former Radcliffe Borough and Rochdale defender earned many plaudits by representing Great Britain at the London Olympics and Freedman may be willing to seek a loan deal for the Lancastrian, with West Brom's £3million asking price seemingly out of Wanderers' budget.

Speaking prior to Bolton's victory over Birmingham City on Saturday, Freedman confirmed Dawson fits the criteria of player that he is looking to bring to the Reebok Stadium in the January transfer window.

"Craig Dawson is a player I admire," Freedman told The Bolton News. "I have seen him a lot when he has played for England Under-21s.

"We just need to make sure the right type of player comes in here. We need someone who wants to come and play for Bolton, not that we are doing them a favour. These are the types of players I am looking for and Craig certainly fits that bill.

"He has links with the area but that isn't the reason we would be interested.

"We want a player who views this club in a way that they would walk here to play in front of the fans at the Reebok and move heaven and earth to play for us."
