Dougie Freedman admits Bolton must learn to play consistently over the course of 90 minutes, after losing 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.

Trailing to a first half header from Mamady Sidibe, Wanderers raced out of the blocks after the break but failed to find a way through a well organised Owls defence.

Freedman has praised the attitude of his players for the way they fought back, but admits they must begin to perform over the course of an entire game and not restrict their good play to short spells.

"Sheffield Wednesday were very well organised," Freedman told the club's official website. "They made things difficult for us, but we didn't put enough pressure on them. We needed a higher line to do that.

"As a result of this, that meant they had a lot more possession and were able to cause us problems.

"Defensively we struggled at times in the first half, but we addressed those problems after the restart.

"In the second half, I thought we gave it a real good go. We upped the tempo, passed the ball well and showed lots of desire to get forward. I felt we were unfortunate not to get a goal. Overall we weren't consistent over the full 90 minutes.

"January is coming up and we'll be looking to strengthen in key positions. I know from experience how difficult this division is, the hustle and bustle of it, and the demands placed on a squad.

"The players have shown me they have the quality. I feel if we are able to add experience it will improve our squad."
