Stephen Warnock has returned to Aston Villa, after his loan spell at Bolton expired on Saturday evening.

Warnock joined Wanderers on a three-month emergency loan deal in September and his final game for the club came in Saturday's remarkable 5-4 defeat at Peterborough United.

The former England international played 15 games for the Trotters, who are keen to renew the deal or, if possible, look into a permanent solution when the transfer window opens on January 1st, 2013.

His days at Villa Park appear to be numbered, with Villa boss Paul Lambert keen to remove the 31-year-old from the club's wage bill - despite the player having just six months left to run on his current contract.
