Bolton have opened talks with Aston Villa over the possible extension of Stephen Warnock's loan deal at the Reebok Stadium.

Warnock has been with the Trotters since September and has gone on to make 14 appearances under the management of Owen Coyle, Jimmy Phillips and, most recently, Dougie Freedman.

His current deal is due to expire following Saturday's trip to Peterborough United. However, Wanderers are hoping to come to some agreement with Villa - who would prefer to get rid of the former England international on a permanent basis, with just six months remaining on his contract.

Villa's £2million valuation appears to have diverted the attentions of Bolton and Sunderland away from making a bid, but Wanderers could tempt the Premier League side into another loan arrangement - on the basis that they would cover a higher percentage of his current wage.
