Bolton look set to face competition from Sunderland for the permanent signing of on-loan Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock.
Warnock's three-month stint at the Reebok Stadium will come to an end in a fortnight and with his Villa Park contract due to expire at the end of the season, Villa boss Paul Lambert is keen to sell the 30-year-old.
A price tag of £2million has reportedly been placed on the former England international, which could tempt Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill into a move.
O'Neill was the man who took Warnock to Villa Park in an £8million deal from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2008. The Black Cats are currently struggling in the Premier League and look set to splash the cash as they bid to retain their top flight status in the second half of the campaign.
