Jacob Butterfield looks set to return to Norwich City at the weekend, when his loan deal at Bolton comes to an end.

Butterfield will be eligible to play in Wanderers' Championship fixture at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, but his one-month stay at the Reebok Stadium expires at midnight, following that game.

The former Barnsley midfielder has made four appearances during his time with the Trotters, as he continues to work his way back from a serious knee injury he suffered 12 months ago.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton is expected to name the 22-year-old in his squad for next Tuesday's Capital One Cup quarter-final tie against Aston Villa, after admitting he has sent somebody to watch him play for the Wanderers.

"In every game that he has been involved in, we have had somebody there, so we are certainly monitoring him," Hughton said.

"I got a phone call not so long after the game in midweek, so we are very aware of how he has done.

"It possibly goes with his fitness. He hasn't played every minute in the period of time that he went and gone on to give his best performance."
