Dougie Freedman believes the form of David Ngog can play a key part in Bolton's hopes of achieving promotion this season.

After a disappointing spell under the management of Owen Coyle, Ngog came off the bench to score the winning goal against Cardiff City last weekend, before being sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.

Freedman admits he was impressed with what he saw from the former Liverpool forward and hopes Wanderers supporters will finally see his potential come to fruition under his reign.

"In my humble opinion, David Ngog could be the difference that takes this team to where we want to be or not," Freedman told The Bolton News. "That's how important he is.

"I can see the potential in him and I am actually very excited to work with David, now I know what he is about.

"When he come on against Cardiff he was fantastic. His movement and desire was there. He did overspill it; there is no hiding that fact and I won't stick up for him on that.

"He stepped over the line a bit and got himself sent off, but I would rather see that than see somebody who doesn't make any impact at all.

"I want to see what the big fuss is about with David because there has been one. Whatever has gone on in the past has gone; it doesn't interest me.

"David is a young man and people have to understand it can take young men time to adapt and he is from a different country. He has been here for just over 14 months.

"I think a different voice may help him adapt more. I am hoping now we can start to see the real David and I have ideas how we can bring that out."
