Benik Afobe has been named in the England Under-21 squad for the upcoming friendly against Northern Ireland.

The on-loan Arsenal forward has made 14 appearances for Bolton this season. He has started just four games for the Trotters, but has scored on two of those occasions.

With Stuart Pearce's side qualifying for the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championships, Afobe has been given a chance to impress and stake his claim for a place in the squad for next summer's finals.

Afobe has represented England at under 16, 17 and 19 levels, and he will earn his first cap for the under-21s should he get on the field at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road next Tuesday.

Marvin Sordell, who has been a regular under Pearce, has been omitted from the squad.
