Ahead of Bolton's showdown with Cardiff City on Saturday, Wanderers striker Marvin Sordell recalls the moment he turned down a move to the Bluebirds.

Sordell joined Wanderers from Watford on the final day of the January transfer window, just hours after it looked like he would be making a move to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The England under-21 international admits the lure of Premier League football was too good to turn down, which led to him joining the Trotters.

Sordell may come up against his former suiters on Saturday afternoon and he recalls the dramatic events of January's transfer deadline day.

"It literally came down to the wire, talking about contracts on deadline day," Sordell told WalesOnline.co.uk.

"I was due to play a game at Millwall that night and in my mind I was joining Cardiff. As it happened, I was pulled out of the team and then it all changed.

"One minute I was on my way to Cardiff, the next minute Bolton came in and asked me to go up there. It was a tough decision, but it was Premiership football and you never know what can happen in football.

"It's a very short career and anything can happen at any time. You've got to take any opportunity you can get."

Sordell has struggled to make an impact during his time at the Reebok Stadium, having made just 10 appearances for the club and scoring one goal.
