Jimmy Phillips has confirmed he will take charge of the Bolton first team ahead of Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough.

Phillips has been in temporary charge of Wanderers since Owen Coyle was sacked as manager on October 9th, with Sammy Lee and Julian Darby helping out in assistant and coaching roles.

Wanderers followed up their 3-2 victory over Bristol City with a 2-2 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night and Phillips admitted he was pleased with the way his side performed at Molineux.

"Overall I'm very pleased," Phillips told the club's official website. "We started the game brightly and passed and moved the ball well and were worthy of the lead.

"I felt we could have gone on and built on that, but we knew that we had to keep our focus. That's one of the areas we have been working on.

"The five minute period in which we conceded the two goals is something that we weren't particularly pleased with.

"We've given ourselves a little bit of an uphill task to get back into the game, but I thought the performance from the players was of a high standard.

"We pressed Wolves hard and, in the end, I think we had twice as many attempts on goal. As an away team at Molineux, that was exceptionally pleasing.

"We have to make sure that when we dominate games for large periods, as we did tonight, that we come away with at least a point, so all credit must go to the players for keeping on going.

"It was very pleasing to secure the point tonight. It means that we're on track with the club’s target of averaging two points a game.

"The application of the players was fantastic. If you're a player, it could easily be unsettling if you find out at 3pm that a new manager (Dougie Freedman) is on the way.

"The chairman (Phil Gartside) has told us that myself, Sammy and Julian will be taking charge of first team affairs going into the Middlesbrough game.

"As I understand it, the deal with Crystal Palace will be finalised, but that hasn't yet happened.

"Once again, we had a tremendous travelling support for a midweek game. On behalf of myself, Sammy and Julian, I would like to thank them all. We really appreciate it.

"We're back in tomorrow in preparation for our second away game this week. We're thoroughly enjoying working with the players and our time in charge of first team affairs."
