Crystal Palace have rejected an official approach from Bolton to speak to manager Dougie Freedman over the vacant position at the Reebok Stadium.
Wanderers are understood to have made the approach prior to Saturday's 3-2 victory over Bristol City, while Palace were held to a 2-2 draw by Millwall, having played more than half the game with ten men.
Palace are currently on a run of eight games unbeaten in the Championship and occupy fourth place in the table, making Freedman an attractive proposition for Bolton chairman Phil Gartside.
The Eagles have confirmed an approach was made, but they have signalled their intentions to keep hold of the former player by denying Wanderers permission to speak to the manager.
A statement on the Palace website read: "Crystal Palace F.C. can confirm that they have received a request from Bolton Wanderers to speak to Dougie Freedman regarding their vacant manager's position.
"Permission has not been granted for Dougie to speak to Bolton."
