Bolton forward Tom Eaves has joined League Two strugglers Bristol Rovers on a three-month loan deal.

Eaves is highly rated at the Reebok Stadium, but has yet to make a single senior appearance for the club he joined from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2010.

The 20-year-old fought back from a series of injuries last season and Wanderers boss Owen Coyle believes the player will benefit from playing first-team football.

Rovers boss Mark McGhee was delighted with the signing of Eaves, who he believes will provide competition for a striking role at the Memorial Stadium.

"Tom was a young lad at Oldham who did brilliantly and was snapped up by Bolton," McGhee told Bristol Rovers' official club website.

"He had a bad injury last pre-season, but he has come back and he needs to play games.

"He is a big lad, about Matt Harrold's size. He runs the channels, does a bit of everything, and can play as well.

"He has shown a lot of promise and we hope he can bring something to the side in the absence of Matt, and provide competition to Joe (Anyinsah), Eliot (Richards) and Clarkey (David Clarkson)."

Eaves will wear the number 32 shirt during his time with Rovers and is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday's game at Exeter City.
