Marvin Sordell played 70 minutes of football on Thursday night as England's Under-21s secured a 2-0 win over their Azerbaijan counterparts in Baku.

Sordell started alongside Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha in the Young Lions' attack and played a key part as Stuart Pearce's side took a huge step towards qualification for next summer's European Under-21 Championships in Israel.

Goals from Tottenham Hotspur's Steven Caulker and Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Meanwhile, Gregg Wylde was an unused substitute as Scotland's Under-21s beat Luxembourg 3-0 at St Mirren Park.
